Overview

The Sanitation Manager is responsible for management of sanitation operations and staff, ensuring appropriate sanitation standards are met for SQF and regulatory compliance.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, supervising, and administration of sanitation programs, policies and practices designed to ensure cleanliness and regulatory compliance;
  • Monitor, verify and validate equipment cleaning methods including recommendations to meet plant sanitation and microbiological objectives;
  • Address sanitation requirements using Master Cleaning Schedules (MCS) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP);
  • Oversee and direct activities related to pest control including monitoring, recordkeeping, exclusion practices and treatment programs;
  • Direct supervise and manage all employees engaged in cleaning and sanitation to assure effective, efficient cleaning of the facility during and after processing hours;
  • Establish a time expectation for each area to be properly cleaned. Keep personnel to those times unless you deem more time is needed. Manage sanitation overtime and provide reasons for the overtime;
  • Manage interviewing, hiring, terminations, employee relations, employee retention and advises management on personnel matters;
  • Oversee employees to make certain employees are performing the job duties listed on their job description and using the correct tools for the job;
  • Cross train employees to ensure staff can fill in or back up when needed;
  • Responsible for the operation and staffing of the equipment washroom during and after production hours;
  • Assure Sanitors clean both internally and externally following documented SOP's for all production equipment daily;
  • Perform documented audits of Sanitors to verify they are following documented SOP's. Retrain when necessary;
  • Order and select cleaning chemicals and equipment. Order shop supplies; cleaning chemicals, towels, floor cleaning chemicals, PPE, and any miscellaneous cleaning items;
  • Monitor and adjust all cleaning chemicals when necessary. Monitor chemical usage and document;
  • Perform other required tasks as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or a similar field preferred;
  • Minimum seven (7) years direct experience and working knowledge in Sanitation Management within the food industry;
  • Sanitize in accordance with SOP’s, HACCP, GMP, EPA, and OSHA requirements and product specifications;
  • Organized and attentive to detail;
  • Experience managing and developing staff;
  • Able to independently translate overall direction and strategy into functional strategy and work plans;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communicator across organizational levels and functions in this collaborative work environment;
  • Develops solutions with creativity and innovative approaches;
  • Work is performed with no immediate direction;
  • Independently stablish actionable recommendations, strategies, and solutions based on high-level/undefined/changing business requirements;
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly fluid company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities;
  • Ability to manage third party vendors;
  • Ability to work weekends.
