Overview
The Boiler Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the boiler system efficiently and safely to ensure the uninterrupted supply of steam required for production processes in addition to ensuring equipment reliability by repairing and maintaining a wide range of processing equipment across the plant. Hours of work will be 10:30 pm - 7:00 am
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and food-safety by following all company, OSHA, and government rules and procedures including; Lock-out / Tag-out procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), personal safety, and food safety/SQF Program standards;
- Operate and maintain high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment;
- Monitor boiler operations and make adjustments to ensure proper steam pressure and temperature;
- Perform routine maintenance on boilers and related equipment;
- Conduct water testing and treat water with chemicals to maintain proper water chemistry;
- Troubleshoot and repair boiler malfunctions and other mechanical issues;
- Maintain accurate records of boiler operations, maintenance, and repairs;
- Effectively support the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program with a goal of continually reducing unscheduled downtime;
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and develop sustainable solutions for issues with equipment to include; PLC controlled equipment, plant electrical, hydraulic/pneumatic, and mechanical systems including motors, instrumentation, distribution, and feed control systems;
- Complete all assigned work orders within the time allotted;
- Maintain complete records of work performed using software, work orders and detailed logs;
- Assist with equipment change overs and line startups, troubleshooting issues as needed;
- Identify required parts and maintain current inventories, and parts reorder lists;
- Act with a Continuous Improvement mindset seeking areas of opportunity for improvement and participating in cross-functional CI focused projects;
- Repair sinks, hoses, water lines, toilets, and plumbing equipment;
- Maintain wheels on racks, tubs, transits and ensure they are greased and in good working order;
- Complete all building repairs; maintain walls, ceilings, and floors in good repair;
- Contact refrigeration contractor when needed for maintenance or repair of refrigeration and/or HVAC system is needed;
- Assist with installation of new equipment;
- Performs other required tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Associates or Bachelor’ degree in related field (technical or vocational education) highly preferred but not required;
- Boiler operator license/certification required;
- Minimum of two (2) years maintenance experience or 5 years related trade experience required;
- Working knowledge of electrical, motor controls, main distribution, process control, wiring and components.
- Maintenance Technician certification highly desired;
- Six months or more of experience in the food processing/manufacturing preferred;
- Proficient in use of basic machine tools and hand tools;
- Proficient in use of basic electrical trouble-shooting equipment;
- Ability to read specifications and pay attention to detail;
- Ability to communicate effectively;
- Detail oriented and self-motivated.
