Overview
The Safety & EHS Manager will oversee and enhance safety programs, ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role involves developing safety policies, conducting audits, providing training, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe working environment;
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards;
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence;
- Lead and support safety committees and engage employees in safety initiatives;
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA);
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and ensure the plant's practices are in alignment;
- Prepare and submit required regulatory reports and documentation;
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire orientation, annual refresher training, and specialized training;
- Promote safety awareness and culture through continuous education and engagement initiatives;
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness for potential emergencies;
- Function as the primary contact for emergency situations and coordinate response efforts;
- Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses to identify and control risks;
- Implement and manage safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication (HazCom), and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and manage waste disposal, recycling programs, and pollution prevention initiatives;
- Monitor and manage environmental impact assessments and sustainability initiatives;
- Lead continuous improvement efforts related to safety and environmental performance;
- Analyze safety data and trends to develop and implement improvement strategies;
- Perform other required tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in the food manufacturing industry;
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations;
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred;
- Strong leadership and communication skills;
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
- The position is based in a food manufacturing plant, which involves exposure to industrial noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures;
- Some travel may be required for training and regulatory meetings.
